"in between complete consciousness and the state where anything is possible
the old ceiling fan motor makes sounds like that of an early 90s office printer
(you know the ones with the perforated margins with the holes?
where no matter how carefully you try to tear them off
you almost never can abscise them in one complete strand)
printing up thoughts and worries that seem ever so important at this early hour
but come the morning's light are nothing but an afterthought
crumple each sheet up along with all its negativity
heave it toward the nearest wastebasket
escape the pessimism of every new sheet that meets the ink cartridge
doubts creep in like a cold front over night
and makes you wonder why that old ceiling fan was ever on in the first place
turn off the fan
turn off the printer"

upd8

-went to Argentina (mainly Buenos Aires and Concordia) for 10 days at the beginning of May on a school field trip.

-taking a couple of classes up in Gainesville all summer, living in a huge house all by myself. it's not as bad as it sounds.

-i've been training almost non-stop since mid-May. about 7000 meters a week in the pool, 70-100 miles a week on my bike, and if i'm lucky 8-10 miles a week on my feet (i hate running). i raced the Madeira Beach Triathlon at the beginning of June and had a great swim, solid bike, and then the worst run of my life, so it ended up being a mediocre race for me.

-i turned 22 on June 27th. fairly uneventful.

-i got a new Felt triathlon/time trial bike and a new race helmet too.

that's pretty much it. hope everyone's summer has been more exciting than mine.

veganism: back into it and enjoying it again, mainly because of the best vegan cookbook ever compiled that I got shortly after Christmas. I've been making bomb-ass mushroom gravies, hot-sauce marinades for tempeh, fake cheese sauces, portabella sandwiches, many tempeh, tofu, and seitan mediterranean dishes complete with plantains, vegan cookies, etc.

triathlons: I did my first a couple of weekends ago in Waldo, FL (just a little bit NE of Gainesville). It was a Sprint distance (1/4 mile swim, 12.5 mile cycle, 3.1 (5K) mile run) and I finished in 1:19:48, a few minutes better than my goal of between 1 hour 20 minutes and 1 hour 25 minutes. That time is also a little distorted because of Transition 1 (transition from swim to bike) because it involved taking off a wetsuit, which can be difficult, and putting on a few layers of cycling clothes to stay warm. A normal Transition 1 (not one taking place in a winter series race when it's 40 degrees out) would really only take 2 or so minutes, but the average Transition 1 time in this race was about 4 minutes. I somehow had the fastest time of all the other people that were doing their first triathlon (First Timers Division). I was really happy with it, but I definitely could have done better if it wasn't so cold out (overnight low before the race was 31 F, and the lake water was 62 F during the swim, which for water is freezing cold). I was pretty much freaking out, hyperventilating, and doggy paddling the whole 400 meters of the swim, I couldn't get into a normal, relaxed swimming stroke. I have another race coming up in April in Tuscaloosa, AL that I am looking forward to and training hard for. [pics] )

foul language: not panning out so (fucking) well. unfortunately.

+ My brother got me a bottle of Jameson for Christmas.
- I think I have to get up before noon tomorrow.
+ I just watched 6 straight hours of Degrassi.
+/- Back up to Gainesville next weekend / That means school starts back up.
+ I pulled 5 As and 2 B+s last semester.
+ New Year's Eve is always a good time, hopefully that trend continues later on today.
+ With the new year, I will be getting back into (a personal, principally sound version of) veganism.

As long as the +s outweigh the -s, I can't complain.

How is everyone's year wrapping up?

I haven't had a New Year's Resolution in years, but I am going to have one or two this year.

What is everyone's resolution(s) for this year?

Mine are to get back into veganism (I'm currently crippled by cheese), finally do some triathlons (I've been training for 3 months now), and limit my foul language use.

easily one of the most hectic, ridiculous weeks of my life. two exams, two lab quizzes, a presentation, meetings here and there, little sleep, etc. the ridiculous part was topped off today on my bicycle ride from my 6th period Organic Crop Production class at Fifield to my 7th period Humans, Soils, and Environmental Impact class at McCarty. basically, a pickup truck pulled right into my path and i had no time to stop. so all 6 feet, 172 lbs. of me and whatever my bike weighs (it's light!) go slamming into the side of this pickup truck. i had to have been going about 15-20 mph. the kid gets out of the truck, very apologetic, but i was still like "dude, you have to look around for bikers." it turns out it wasn't even his truck, it was his friend's. i am completely fine by the way, just a scratch and a bruise here, amazingly. even my bike survived this collision with no damage (at least none that i've noticed yet). here is the best part: the truck has a HUGE dent in the side of it. we exchanged information and all that, but basically he knows it's his fault (or at least he better) and he now owes his friend and owner of the truck the money to fix that huge dent. moral of the story: watch out for bikers!

also, it should go without nothing that i am getting trashed tonight and tomorrow night (i'm actually already drinking) and morals are being thrown out the window.
